Sian's Scarf

On 27th December 2012 my family lost a precious member when my cousin Sian Thomas died suddenly after suffering an ectopic pregnancy. Sian was 34 and is missed by husband Lee, daughter Sophie, mum Sue and so many other family members and friends.

In January 2013 Oubas Knitwear launched at Two by Two Ulverston offering a range of luxury scarves designed and made in Ulverston by Kate Wilson.....

I felt passionate about Oubas Knitwear from the start, I loved its story (read it here) and once I had one of my own I knew it was an extraordinary product too.

I wore an Oubas Brant scarf to Sian's Memorial Service and its comfort and warmth were there for me. I rarely took it off after that and I wondered how wonderful it would be to have one of these scarves made in Sian's name...

Lucky for us, Kate agreed to design and make a bespoke scarf for Sian and the process has been both exciting and therapeutic. Kate started out by experimenting with new stitches and giving us handfuls of samples to browse. They were all gorgeous but one stood out because it was delicate and feminine and so that was the one we chose....

Choosing a colour was tricky since there were so many beautiful colours available in the super geelong lambswool that Kate uses. Around the same, however, we had been given some of Sian's clothes and it was clear that she loved shades of turquoise, mint and aqua which helped us to chose the colour Barbados Blue.

We are so delighted with the result...

A heart, in a random colour, has been hand stitched to the hem of each scarf to represent Sian's charity Ty Cariad which in Welsh means House of Love. Ty Cariad is an orphanage which was established by Sian's Uncle Paul Thomas in 2008. It is now home to over 30 Ugandan orphans and in 2014 an Education Room will be built in Sian's name, funded from all the donations pledged since her death.

Sian's Scarf will be available at both Two by Two Ulverston and www.twobytwoonline.com  from her birthday, 27th September, and will cost £55 (Sian's scarf was available for a limited time and is no longer available) Part of the proceeds from the sale of Sian's Scarf will be donated to Ty Cariad....

Sian's Scarf has been designed and made with hope and love and is just one way of carrying the memory of a beautiful soul into the future.
